25cm contours from GeoEye-1

Pacific Geomatics Ltd. announces early results using stereo GeoEye-1 (GE1) satellite imagery. In a test conducted for Anglo Platinum Limited, the world's largest platinum producer, GE1 stereo imagery was used to model the surface of a waste rock dump in South Africa. Using a digital photogrammetric workstation, individual dumper loads on the surface of the rock dump were modeled at 25cm contour intervals. The GE1 results were compared with ground-based differential GNSS, ground-based laser scanner, and airborne LIDAR data. Initial results show the GE1 surface to compare almost perfectly with the GNSS survey ground traverses. In a second test undertaken for the Yukon Territorial government, 25cm contours were produced from GE1 stereo images over a section of the open pit and surface areas of an abandoned lead-zinc mine in central Yukon.
