Geology

As the population grows, the pressure on the Earth to provide resources for our industrialized needs increases. Geology is the study of the materials and processes that make our planet Earth. Remote sensing can help find these resources and map an environmentally sound way to extract the resources.

Landsat has sufficient resolution to map several general features such as:

• general area overview
• structural features and trends
• multispectral bands to emphasize features

SPOT 5 Panchromatic, although similar resolution to IRS provides more detail and contrast within each feature:

• detailed area overview
• detailed structural features
• infrastructure planning

IKONOS & Quickbird High Resolution:

• environmental assessments
• drill planning
• local planning and overview
