In a society that depends on resources to feed mass production,
sustainable resource management becomes an increasingly important priority.
Most countries realize that sustainable forestry is in their best interest
however it faces several challenges. Remote sensing can help understand
these challenges and map a road to successful management.
In 2004, Pacific Geomatics and Iunctus Geomatics acquired over 150 SPOT5
scenes to map the B.C. Coast. Pacific Geomatics is creating a 2.5m B&W
mosaic and a 5m Colour mosaic to be used by the Forest Industry.
Another very successful project was the mapping of Mountain Pine Beetle
in the Prince George area. Using a fusion of SPOT5 2.5m Pan & 10m
MSS, MPB infested areas were easily identified and confirmed by Helicopter.
